Hey y'all. Sorry about going a week without a check in but life has been crazy and I have been a little low this week. Last weekend was very low key and therefore I think kind of depressed me a bit. The week, although busy, wasn't overloaded and even had a snow day from school so I continued my funk. And with that came a serious cold and we all know how I hate being sick.
I hate being sick, having no plans and not doing much - which leads to serious procrastination. I am a little miffed though because I co-chair the graduate alumni committee where I got my masters degree and the other co-chair is definitely trying to take more of a leadership role than I am. She isn't even a graduate of the grad program at our school, she is an undergrad alum. I think she is setting herself up to take over as Alumni Council President in a few years, which is fine but don't overshadow me in the process. Actually, never overshadow a counter part if you want to advance your career/position, whether volunteer or not. It never helps you once you get to the top; only hurts you. I have all the time in the world and she needs to try and do EVERYTHING... grrr!!! Oh well, I just need to make sure I can still play the game.
Oh and as game playing goes - I am considering running for school committee. I know, I know... I might be committing career suicide but I am truly thinking I can do this. Problem is the seat I would run for is a minority seat and this would make the entire committee white now. Not sure how that will go over but in general I grew up the daughter of a city teacher, have many friends in the field and worked four years in the administration office and know how things run. I know I am qualified to run and I don't want to run to spite my old employer but to help them. Thoughts?? Should I go for it???
That's really been my week to date. I am having a small Super Bowl party at my house tomorrow in which I decided to make homemade pizzas and wings... cheaper than ordering. So check back to find out how it all came out.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Have fun.

Not Quite A Wardrobe Malfunction
I was at the gym this morning in Boot Camp jump roping. We were upstairs today in the general weight area, not in the racquetball court as usual. I happened to catch a glimpse of me in the mirror across the room and OMG my boobs were up and down, just like the rest of my fat. All jiggly!!! The worst part was when my friend Kevin, a trainer at the club, mentioned it to me when he came over. He was like "you may need a face shield soon for protection." I was mortified!!! Not that he said it but because I could honestly care less about that part but because I had just become aware of it obviously so did other people.
Maybe it was just him but he was enough for me to come home and order some more supportive bras for the gym. I have gotten away the past few years wearing the same bras from Target and they worked but after lots o' washing, stretching, a weight gain I had to stop being in denial. I was getting too big for what I was wearing and they weren't supportive anymore. And I know I have six more weeks of Boot Camp. Champion has great sales right now; $10 of 2 or more bras plus some on clearance and they also size based on cup sizes which for me definitely works.
Have you ever had this problem or saw someone at the gym with this problem?? I was that girl today but I won't be for long!!! ;-)

On Top of The World
This is the title of a new Pussycat Dolls song, which happens to be the theme song for my fav show The City. This is the new series following Whitney from The Hills as she takes on a new job in New York City. She really is on top of the world.
But there is something about this song that resonates with me and empowers me to be and do better. It is just an uplifting song that makes you want to start your day on a good note and conquer the world. And when my life is in the process of taking on a new direction this is all I want to do...conquer the world. I am starting grad school soon, again, this time in business. I am nervous about it but sooooo excited to try something new and open a new chapter. I have always dreamed of running a company or starting a business some day and I know this will take me that much closer. I have to thank my favorite professor, who I have yet to have but is the head of the MBA program I am about to embark in and my number one fan.
Due to her I will be on top of the world!!!!

Inauguration Recap
I realized on Tuesday my post was all about me and my exercising and not one of the most important times in the country and my life. This was the first political campaign I was actually excited and interested in, besides the time I covered a community meeting by McCain years ago in NH for journalism for his last run. I wasn't a supporter but being there was just so much fun... and I thought I would hate journalism.
I wasn't really going to watch the coverage, in face had a busy day. But when I met my friend and soon to be college professor for lunch we watched President Obama take the Oath and his speech. Then when I came home I turned the TV and was glued until bed. I am overwhelmingly in love with Michelle Obama and her girls. How cute were they all on Tuesday??? The J Crew stock has gone up big time because of the cute coats the girls wore. And the dress Michelle wore for all of their 10 balls...amazing.
Michelle and Barack are what I see as hope for the country. They seem very down to earth and willing to do the best they can in doing the right thing. Let's be honest, with so many people in power besides the president it isn't always easy. But there is something uncanny about the appeal they bring to the White House; a sense of freshness that I have yet to see from past administrations. I wasn't around in the Kennedy era to know sense of renowned hope brought about but I am excited about what the Obama era will bring. I am excited to become more involved in the country and politics, to become a more aware and cultural citizen.
Good Luck President Obama. I have faith you are what this country needs. And to your family - I am so impressed by the poise you all have. I wish I could be half the person you all are, including your two adorable girls.

A Class Too Many???
Today I found myself at the gym three separate times. Once at 5 a.m. for Boot Camp, back at 10 a.m. for Kickboxing and I am just getting home from Yoga. Too much you might ask??? Well yes and no. I have the time, so I can afford it and every class was working something different. And who can't benefit from some good, deep stretching after two intense morning classes??? Sometimes I overdue it a bit because I don't want to lose the good habit I have going however I am very careful to not overdue any one particular body part. Plus as intense as Boot Camp or Kickboxing sounds... I love them!!!
All this happened in the midst of having a procedure done this morning where I had two biopsies done on my cervix (abdomen area, not neck). I was a little sore going into Kickboxing but I knew I would be sore after taking the class so it didn't bug me. But Yoga, that made me very sore and achy. Just like someone sucker punched me in the gut a few times. Some of the Yoga poses required me to lay flat on my stomach with pressure on that area - not a fun feeling. I had been fine all day so I didn't think too much about it effecting Yoga. Oh well, I survived and will head to bed soon to just relax that area.
The crazy things we do to stay in shape!!!

New Me
This past year has taken a big toll on me personally. If you haven't read my blog before I had ankle surgery last January (2008) after being in a cast for most of 2007, due to the foot I became lazy - not as active with running, etc., and I lost my job. It is always fun to hear the words "Your job is being eliminated" and then watching the economy go into a downward spiral. I was not lucky enough to rebound quickly and land on two feet with a new job. In fact I am still looking. When anything like this happens to someone it takes a toll on their whole life. I let me activity level drop, my weight go up, and my mood go crazy.
This past November I decided I would start taking things back, getting in control. I started getting more serious with my food intake, the gym and new activities, and working on that darn job thing. Well to date I never found a job so I decided to head back to school and get my MBA. Funny how working out and eating better is sooo much easier. The gym thing is going very well. I take two Yoga classes a week, two/three days of weight training, two spin classes, two days a week of a Boot Camp class (yep finally was convinced to sign up) and just started a kickboxing class. I LOVE every single class. Even if some are hard, I need to do something different and challenge myself. The eating is better too. I cut back on alcohol, not cut it out, just back, I keep a food journal on the fridge so when I open the fridge I track - this makes it easy. I am cutting back on processed foods, drinking more water and green tea. Little by little this part of my life is getting back on track. So here is to making me feel personally happier and in control again. Remember this - it only takes 21 days to make a habit... try it. I did and every day I feel better, more confident and stronger. And finally feeling like the jeans fit better, that is just an extra perk.
While we all like to say the eating and working out thing is to make us/help us look better which is how we feel better - not so true. I will help us feel better, build more confidence which inevitably makes us look sexier because we hold ourselves higher. That and sometimes seeing a therapist to talk about crazy things in out lives help round us all out. I am doing the latter too, seeing someone who lets me talk about work, not working, family issues, personal strengths or weaknesses and I am not ashamed, I embrace it.
My challenge to you is to make one small change and try to keep doing it every day for 21 days. Over the course of the 21 days you will embrace the change and it will make you feel better and stringer to try something else new. Good Luck!

New Year, New Job, New Dates... Here's to Hoping!
Happy New Year everyone! For those of you who have read my blog before, I apologize for not posting in a long time. My life has turned upside down and I am coming to terms with it all. But this is a new year with new hopes and new chances. So what are my new hopes and dreams for 2009 you may ask??? Well I hope to find a new job, well a job in general would be nice, to find someone to kiss at midnight on New Year's and not just anyone and to continue to better myself through a healthy lifestyle.
Ok, so doesn't sound so hard but trust me, it is. Dating at home sucks, either you know everyone from high school and they all know you or the rest of the select few out there are not grown up enough to know, already taken or dare I say gay! As for the job - unless you were living under a rock, and even then I am sure you had to have heard something, the economy sucks!!! I have a masters degree in communications and technology and it's been six months since the lay off!!! I have truly become a pro at rejection - with work that is, not with men! I am not saying because I have a masters I should get a job but come on... it stinks that I have it and haven't found the job!!! Granted I have had some major family stuff come down while not working - nana got sick, my sister needed a dog sitter, aunt getting terminal cancer but I don't see all of this as being a reason for not working.
I have however spent two mornings a week volunteering in a kindergarten class and that has been so rewarding. I am very thankful I got off my fat bum to do something productive with my time. I just adore my little kids and after a long holiday break can't wait to see their smiling faces on Wednesday.
I've gotta run for today but tomorrow I will continue catching you up on what I have been up to all while doing the job hunt. Chat soon.
